B04
Simulation based Optimization and Optimal Design of Experiments for Wetting Phenomena

Overview

In B04, methods for the optimization of wetting processes are developed. For the calculation of sensitivities and adjoints the solver interFoam is extended by sensitivity and corresponding adjoint calculations, where the complexity is successively increased (non-Newtonian fluids, temperature dependence, more complex contact angle dynamics). With C01 the methods are applied to the optimization of doctor blading processes motivated by printing applications. Optimization under uncertainty will be taken into account using robust optimization techniques in connection with efficient solution methods. Moreover, methods for the optimal design of experiments for wetting processes will be extended by Bayesian techniques.
