Investigation of Fast De-wetting from Substrates with Complex Surface Morphologies

This generic experiment models the dewetting which occurs in many industrial processes, such as gravure printing, and which is often a limiting factor for printing speeds. Thereby a direct link to subproject C01 is defined. The dewetting is realized by rapid stretching of a liquid bridge between two plates, which then detaches from one of the plates. Exact control of the dewetting can be achieved through selection of the experimental parameters, including strain rate, viscosity and surface tension. Theoretical analysis will elucidate the respective role of adhesion, viscous and inertial forces.
