A06: Flow Velocity Profile near a Moving Three-phase Contact Line

In this project very fundamental information about the flow velocity profile near an advancing or receding contact line will be experimentally obtained. To achieve this, fluorescence particles will be dispersed in the fluid and tracked using confocal microscopy. The position of a resting tracer can be measured in this way with a resolution <0.1 microns. The challenge is to extend the technique to a temporal resolution of 50-100Hz to capture realistic wetting situations. An overall spatial resolution of <5µm and a velocity resolution of >100µm/s is anticipated.
