Poster award for the numerical simulation of nucleate boiling

Johannes Kind received the DECHEMA Best Poster Award

2023/03/16

Johannes Kind received the Best Poster Award of the DECHEMA panel Heat and Mass Transfer for his poster “Physical modeling of heat & mass transfer close to the contact line in nucleate boiling with the Volume-of-Fluid method”.

The award was given within the annual meeting of the DECHEMA panels Computational Fluid Dynamics and Heat and Mass Transfer in Frankfurt on March 8th, 2023. Johannes Kind is a PhD student at the Institute for Technical Thermodynamics. His research field is the numerical simulation of nucleate boiling. He developed a new algorithm for the heat transfer between a solid and a fluid body in OpenFOAM, which models the physics much more accurate than the default algorithm. Using the new algorithm, in the validation much better agreement between selected experiments and numerical simulations than before was achieved. Validated simulations are indispensable for further simulations, because only then the results can be trusted.

On the conference, numerous contributions from research facilities, universities and industry regarding recent applications and scientific findings were presented.
